Microsoft Names Pavan Davuluri as New Windows and Surface Chief

Microsoft has appointed Pavan Davuluri as the new head of its Windows and Surface division, following the departure of Panos Panay last year. With this move, Microsoft consolidates the leadership of its Windows and Surface teams under Davuluri. Mikhail Parakhin, who previously led the Windows team, will be exploring new opportunities outside the company.

As we Information obtained by The Verge, Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, announced the reorganization of the Windows division. The company aims to integrate its Windows and devices teams once again to foster a unified approach in building products for the AI era.

Pavan Davuluri, a veteran of Microsoft with over 23 years of experience, will now oversee both Windows and Surface, reporting directly to Rajesh Jha. Davuluri has played a significant role in Microsoft’s collaboration with Qualcomm and AMD to develop custom processors for Surface devices.

Mikhail Parakhin will undergo a transition phase reporting to Kevin Scott, but his future at Microsoft remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind and former CEO of Inflection AI, has joined Microsoft to lead a new AI team. Suleyman will oversee consumer-facing AI products such as Copilot, Bing, and Edge, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella.

The company memo also talks about how different teams at Microsoft work together. They want the Windows and AI teams to collaborate more. This change shows that Microsoft is serious about making better AI technology for all their products.
